McMinn Bursary

Following a generous donation in 2005 by Derek McMinn (Birmingham) to the British Orthopaedic Association, an annual bursary will be available to trainees holding a NTN, through the good offices of the British Hip Society, to undertake an MD researching matters pertaining to hip replacement surgery. The amount available annually is £70,000. A committee is to be formed to receive applications for the grants. In the first instance it will be available for 7 years.

Please contact John Timperley for further information. Submissions to be made to Leslie O'Leary at the BOA (contact info). The closing date for application is 31st December 2009. Interviews will be on the TBC March 2010 at the BHS Annual Meeting in Sheffield.
The applicant should submit the following:-

Title and purpose and outline of their investigation
Name of University agreeing to sponsor their MD
Name of supervisor
Names of 3 referees
Full CV
Details of costs and expenses
Date of starting and anticipated completion date
Any other supporting data they wish to add

Successful Applicants

2006 - the first McMinn scholarship was awarded to Mr Callum McBryde.

2007 - Mr Alister Hart.

2008 - Shared between Ben Ollivere (East Anglian rotation) and Graham Dall (Edinburgh)
