Longevity of "PACS" images
The BHS strongly recommends that images involving diseases of the hip joint should be held on PACS indefinetely. "Historical" hard copies should all be copied into PACS if they demonstrate previous hip surgey and also be kept indefinitely.

Do we all agree?

Centralisation of sterile services
THERE IS NOW GUIDANCE DOCUMENTS IN THE MEMBERS AREA
Some concerns have been raised at the British Hip Society executive meetings about the moves to centralise decontamination and sterilisation procedures. We are keen to find out what problems you are having locally and what problems and concerns you perceive for the future. There are significant issues around what quantities of equipment you will need both for standard and complex surgery in order to ensure that a a dropped instrument or torn wrapping does not become a disaster.

Do you have data on cases where this has occurred and where instruments have had to be sterilised off site?
How much duplication of equipment do you feel you need?
How big a stock do you think is required on site?
How many days worth of surgical equipment do you think you need before you can start cases?
Are you having any specific problems in relation to decontamination and sterilisation with the recent changes?

I would be grateful if you could communicate this information by email to a.m.c.thomas@bham.ac.uk and / or ortho@fareshaddad.net
